  • Creative Writing is a fun course to take, but it can be tricky -- even intimidating -- to evaluate, especially if the student is home-schooled, and Mom or Dad are better at grading math and grammar. "I know when my student is shifting tenses, or when he's used the wrong verb form, but I'm not sure if the writing itself is any good. And how do I know if he's making progress?"

"Writing His World" is a tutorial designed to take those worries off the homeschool teacher. I developed this curriculum while teaching creative writing to homeschool students and adults. My aim is to take whatever "diamonds" the student already posesses (his or her skills and talents) and polish them. By the end of the course every student, no matter what level of talent, is able to write with more confidence and skill.

"Writing His World" focuses mainly on short story writing, with a few grammar lessons sprinkled in here and there. The lessons cover 30 weeks, which for most of us is a regular school year, but students are free to move through the course at their own pace.

This curriculum is aimed at high school students and adults, though a mature middle school student can also benefit from it.

Here's how online evaluation works:


Once your student has signed up for lessons, I will send the lessons by email. As your student finishes assignments, he or she will send them back to me for evaluation. If you want a numeric grade, I will be happy to assign one. My grading policy will be on the sylabus that accompanies the lessons. The lessons are designed to take one week each, but the students can work on a slower timetable if they need to.
